Letter to Members from the Chairman

Dear Friends of ALCQ

It is with much sorrow that I have to advise that ALCQ has been forced to, at least temporarily, cease its free weekly advice sessions to members of the arts community.

Temporary funding provided by the Attorney General ceased on 31 October 2008 and, to date, the ALCQ Management Committee has been unable to secure further base funding.

For the last couple of months we have attempted to continue ALCQ’s activities by reducing our staff level to one part-time person. Unfortunately this has not been successful as the role has proved far too much for one person on a minimum number of hours to perform. Without funding for at least one full-time coordinator it is impossible to continue to operate.

I have today written to the Premier seeking her assistance and an interview. I would urge all friends of ALCQ to write to the Premier in support of my request. Please send letters of support to alcq@artslawqld.org.au.

In the meantime, those requiring advice may be able to seek assistance from the Arts Law Centre of Australia (toll free telephone 1800 221 457) but please note that it has a different system and process for giving advice.

Unfortunately, should no financial support be forthcoming from the State Government, the Management Committee is of the view that the Association will have no choice but to close its door permanently early in the new year.

I would like to express the thanks of the ALCQ and myself to all those who have supported the ALCQ over the years including volunteer advisors, committee members, staff, assistant coordinators and members.

I will keep you advised of further developments.

Yours faithfully,

Harold Littler
ALCQ Chairperson
